All sales are final at the Troponopolis black market, but to say you are experiencing buyer’s remorse over your new eye implants is an understatement. You had to scrape away the thick crust around your sockets with scalding water and a toothbrush. These secondhand orbs were early generation four generations ago, and looked like something you’d find in a museum. When you open your eyes too wide they are likely to roll out due to being several sizes too small. As a result your face is wrinkled into a permanent squint, giving you the general appearance of dissatisfaction – at least that requires no acting. The optic calibration is so botched everything you can see is color shifted into vertigo inducing tones of neon red. Even so this is preferable to being recognized by the wrong person’s retinal scanners. The price on your head is so high and your funds are so low there were few options left – which is why you are back in Troponopolis in the first place. Adjusting your pulse pistol as inconspicuously as possible you check the readout. The charge shows critically low – or is it full? There is virtually no way to tell with these damn eyes. Best not to rely on it. Your only real chance is to talk your way out of this anyway. Resigned to your plan you turn up your collar against the stinging acid rain and step into the press of the market. Assaulted on all sides by the sounds, smells, and sights of the place. You see other far less fortunate souls in cages, flash frozen for harvesting, and in leftover piles all around. All sales are final in the Troponopolis black market, and the price of life is cheap for a high tech low life cyborg like you.
